Constitution amendment bill on north Karnataka sent to President assent

GULBARGA: The Constitution amendment bill passed recently by both Houses of Parliament to provide for special economic status to north Karnataka region has been sent to the President for assent.

The presidential assent was expected soon, Union minister for labour & employment M Mallikarjun Kharge said here while replying to felicitation organised by Gulbarga district unit Congerss for the efforts amend Article 371 J of Constitution.

Kharge explained hardship and also strenous efforts put in by Union ministers representing Karnataka, MPs including former chief minister N Dharam Sing in pushing through the amendments.

He exhorted the state government to ensure development of north Karnataka districts using funds provided by the Centre.

Dharam Singh was also honoured on this occasion.
